Advanced Training for Oil Tanker Cargo Operations (ATOT)

Course Details

All seafarers employed or hired on board an Oil tanker like a Captains, Chief Engineers, First Officers, Second Officers and any other person who has the responsibility to load, unload, transport, handle, care of cargo and participate in tank cleaning or any other operation required on board of Oil Tankers ship must know the advanced principles of cargo operations, since these are part of their integral training; and will allow you to handle safety related aspects with skills. 

Knowing what to do, when to do it and do it well, saves a life; thus, avoiding complications and minimizing the risks of danger and pollution at sea. This being, clearly the essence of all seafarers who are on the high seas. That is why the structure of the course has been developed, seeking that the participant is competent and has the appropriate aptitude to develop the skills, abilities and perform within their tasks and functions on board.

Eligibility

1.Have a valid good health certificate. 

2. Have the certificate for basic training for oil and chemical tanker operations issued by a
Maritime Training Center (like SCMS), authorized by the Panama Maritime Authority.

3.The period of seagoing service must be registered in the seaman book and/or the company letter(s).

4. Have completed an approved period of seagoing service of three (3) months as a minimum on an oil tanker, within the validity period of the certificate of basic training for oil and chemical tanker cargo operations.

Course Objective

Upon completion of the course the candidate would:-

1. Possess the ability to safely perform and monitor all cargo operations. 

2. Have Familiarity with physical and chemical properties of oil cargoes

3. Be able to take precautions to prevent hazards. 

4. Apply occupational health and safety precautions.

5. Respond to emergencies quickly and efficiently.

6. Take precautions to prevent pollution of the environment. 

7. Monitor and control compliance with legislative requirements.
