Course Details
An Able Seafarer Deck (ASD)is a skilled deck crew member on a ship. This role is essential for the safe operation and maintenance of the vessel. The ASD performs a variety of tasks related to navigation, maintenance, cargo handling, and safety.
Eligibility
To be eligible for this course the participant must have:-
1. A valid good-health certificate
2. Have the four basic courses in maritime safety
3. Have a proficiency certificate of Rating Forming part of Navigation watch
4. Have complied with an approved period of seagoing service of no less than six-(6) months as Rating forming part of Navigation Watch
Course Objectives
Upon completion of the course the candidate will be able to:-
1. Gain proficiency in seamanship and navigation.
2. Gain skills in operating deck machinery and equipment.
3. Effective communication skills for coordination with the crew.
4. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
5. Play a vital role in the safe and efficient operation of a ship
With additional experience and further certifications, one can progress to higher-ranking roles
