Course Details
Ratings forming part of Engineering Watch is a certification within the maritime industry. This certification qualifies seafarers to perform specific duties related to engine-room operations on ships. The term “ratings” refers to non-officer personnel who perform operational and maintenance tasks.
Upon successful completion of the course, the student receives a certificate of completion of the course for Ratings forming part of a watch in a manned engine-room or designated to perform duties in a periodically unmanned. engine-room.
Eligibility
This course is principally intended
for candidates for certification Ratings forming part of a watch in a manned
engine-room. Prior to entering the course, it is recommended the trainees
should have completed the 4 basic safety training.
Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of the course, the candidate would be able to do the following:-
1. Carry out a watch routine appropriate to the duties of a rating forming part of an engine-room watch.
2. Understand orders and be understood in matters relevant to watchkeeping duties
3. Keeping a boiler watch.
4. Maintain the correct water levels and steam pressures
5. Operate emergency equipment and apply emergency procedures.
