Elementary First Aid

Scope

All seafarers employed or hired on a ship must be proficient in elementary first aid, since this will enable them to skillfully handle aspects related to accidents or medical emergency and apply the basic principles of first aid.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this course, the candidate must be in good health, justified by a medical certificate stating the same.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of the course the participant would be able to do the following:-

1.      Assess needs of casualties and threats to own safety

2.       Understand in detail body     structure and functions

3.       Understanding of immediate measures to be taken in cases of  emergency, including skills       such as:-

a.       Rescue, Transport & Positioning of Casualty

b.      Applying Resuscitation Techniques

c.       Controlling Bleeding

d.      Applying appropriate measures of basic shock management

e.      Applying appropriate measures in event of burns and scalds, including accidents caused by electric current

f.        Improvising bandages and use materials in the emergency kit
