Radar Navigation, Radar Plotting and use of ARPA

Scope

Radar Navigation, Radar Plotting and use of ARPA is designed to train seafarers in the use of RADAR and ARPA to maintain safety of navigation, taking appropriate measures for the safety of personnel the vessel and marine environment. This course is principally intended for candidates for certification as Officers in charge of a navigational watch 

Eligibility

Prior to entering the course, it is recommended the trainees should have completed a minimum period of six months at sea and preferably have gained some experience of bridge watch keeping.

Entry level

Upon completion of the course the participant would be able to

  1. Knowledge of the fundamentals of radar and automatic radar plotting aids (ARPA) 
  2. Operate and to interpret and analyses information obtained from radar 
  3. To operate and to interpret and analyse information obtained from ARPA.

The course would also be of value for other people that use radar, who work in this type of vessels such as port and customs patrol launches, in which case the entry standards can be adjusted to suit the particular circumstances.
